The cheese is doing the heavy lifting, but the rest of the board still matters. Keep it simple, and you won’t go wrong.
Crackers and bread: A mix of plain water biscuits, seeded crackers, and a small sourdough or sliced baguette gives people options without anything competing with the cheese.
Fruit: Fresh grapes, sliced pear, or apple sit well alongside almost everything in our range. Dried apricots and cranberries add a lovely chewiness that works especially well with Honey and Ginger or The Jubilee Fig.
Chutney and pickles: A proper onion chutney or a punchy piccalilli does wonders next to the bolder, hoppier cheeses. Don’t skip this step.
Nuts: Walnuts and pecans add crunch and richness, and they look great on a board with zero prep needed.
It’s one of those questions everyone Googles at some point, so here’s a straightforward answer.
If cheese is part of a wider spread alongside other food, around 75 to 100g per person is comfortable. If the board is the main event, go closer to 150 to 200g per person, and nobody will go home hungry.
With Croome’s wedges and truckles, it’s easy to portion well. A single 150g truckle is a satisfying portion on its own, or it slices nicely to serve two or three people as part of a bigger board.
Every cheese in the Croome range is made at Pond Farm using quality ingredients and proper artisan methods. We’ve picked up multiple awards along the way, but what we’re really proud of is knowing that our cheese ends up on kitchen tables and living room spreads across the country for moments exactly like the one you’re planning.
We use eco-friendly packaging, we care about doing things properly, and we genuinely believe a casual get-together deserves better than ordinary cheese. That’s why we make the kind that people come back for.
Whether you’re planning ahead or pulling something together at the last minute, our full range of artisan wedges and waxed truckles is available to order online with delivery straight to your door.
